1/20/2022 - The Drunken Cyclist Likes this wine: 88 pointsRetail $30. 100% Ruchè. I do not have a ton of experience with Ruchè (being a Francophile, it just seems wrong using an accent grave there), the much lesser known red variety from Piedmont, so it is a bit difficult to place this wine. Light to medium garnet in the glass with oodles of fruit, mostly red (cherry, raspberry), some black (blackberry, plum), some spice, and a mineral note. The palate is *really* fruity, particularly upon opening (it calmed down a *bit* on Day 2), with plenty of acidity, noticeable tannin, and a slight bitter element on the finish. |

8/30/2018 - Eric Guido Likes this wine: 89 pointsThe nose showed spiced raspberry and blue berry with notes of rosy florals, dusty minerals and the slightest hint of undergrowth. On the palate, I found soft textures offset by citrus-tinged acidity, showing tart red woodland berries, hints of bitter herbs and inner floral tones. The finish was medium-long, resonating on a mix of blue and red fruits with a hint of residual minerality and tannin. |

7/25/2018 - Eric Guido Likes this wine: 91 pointsThe nose was intense with a mix of exotic florals and sweet-and-sour cherry sauce. On the palate, I found a smooth, silky expression with depths of energetic red and blue fruits, minerals and inner florals. The finish was long, as notes of dried cherry, blueberry skins and sweet spices slowly faded. This is a departure from the fresh, lifted and floral Ruche from the tasting, yet undeniably enjoyable. |

4/12/2015 - Mike Kopanski wrote: 86 pointsWas slightly disappointed. Had a chance to try a taste at an event and brought home a bottle. The taste was fresh and fruity with some nice "Old World" earthy nuances. At home, it was probably a mistake, but we decanted. Pouring into the decanter was some very expressive fresh strawberry and red raspberry. The first taste after decant, the fruit on the lips was still pretty vibrant, but most of the rest of the flavors came off as fairly bland. We kept some overnight. The vibrant fresh fruit was gone, but the raspberry preserves flavors was a nice trade off. And some steely, mineral flavors appeared. Just open this bottle and share with a couple of friends immediately and enjoy. |

3/28/2015 - vinolovers wrote: 86 pointsPoured with a bright ruby coloring. The nose gave a blast of strawberries and some raspberry while the flavor profile was of red fruit. However, the astringency typical of d'Asti barbera came through almost immediately. At first I thought the astringency resulted from a poor match with the acidity of the tomatoes in the lasagna, but it faded only slightly long after dinner ended. |

1/26/2015 - Lilja wrote: 85 pointsIntense and aromatic nose full of grape, soap bar, lavender, violette and bergamot. Medium acidity, round with no tannins, sweetish fruit. Lacking a bit of punch, but still fun and weird! |

I like it, but mainly because I've come to enjoy slender, high acidity wines more and more. This is nothing for the fructofile! |

11/17/2014 - Snoman wrote: 86 pointsDark purple/black, bricking on rim. Aromas show a touch of Bret or perhaps some oxidation that blows off after about 10 minutes in the glass. Palate is rustic, coarse tannins grip the flavors of blackberry, mushroom and black earth; a touch of leather but no discernable oak. Medium+ finish with intense flavors battling the rusticity for control. Won't likely improve from here, drink up. |

2/21/2013 - Rich S Likes this wine: 88 pointsPoppped and poured. Candied cherry, strawberry and red licorice on the nose. Juicy red cherries on the palate with a touch of sweet spices and orange peel. Juicy mouthfeel, light to medium bodied. Clean finish. This wine more than delivers for under $15. I will definitely be rebuying. Great weeknight alternative when you are in the mood for a wine with some nebbiolo traits but do not want to break the bank. |
